Design Folder

Area of Interaction: Community and Service , Approaches to Learning & Human Ingenuity
Significant Concept: Design Cycle can be used to solve problems
Unit Question: How can my learning help my community? How do I make Sound Choices?
INVESTIGATE: (Write in complete sentences) Identify the Problem
1. What is the problem you need to solve? Explain to a 6th grader what the design cycle is all about by creating a presentation. (3d, PPT, movie, game, Poster)
2. How does the Design Cycle apply to the real world?
Every product made has followed this process.
3. How will this project serve my community?
i will be able to teach students and help them have a better life for when they go to college
4. How can my learning help my community?
i might make products that better people's lives
5. How do we live in relation to each other?
we are a large ecosystem
6. How does this help others?
everyone helps everyone
7. What are the requirements for this assignment?teach a sixth grader about the design cycle
8. What is the Design Cycle?
the proper way to make a product
REFLECT on your learning.
Day 2
9. Spend one day experimenting with DESIGN CYCLE your presentation. List five things your learned about the Design Cycle: plan, investigate, create, 6 part rubric, evaluate

This gantt chart shows how i must manage my time. the create process took me the longest because it is somewhat difficult to create a song out of the blue. what would take me the least amount of time would be to grade the surveys. this is because i know the answers so i will know what grade they get almost automatically. This gantt chart was very accurate because i took about the mount of time i calculated on each one of these.

in class

In class i have done a lot. i have created my gant chart and i decided what instrument to use. the gant chart helps me decide how to manage my time. unfortunately i can not work on my project in class because it requires a guitar. so i will have to work harder at home. i thank miss h for being THE Rockstar.

The Design Specification is the most crucial element of the Investigate phase of the Design Cycle

A good Design Specification should include information that you learned about the task/problem from your research.
It is a list of requirements that your design ideas must meet plus a list of constraints that you have. It is the check list that you need to use when you start to make your design ideas.
After your research you can develop a Design Specification.
DESIGN BRIEF, DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS & TEST DUE AT END OF PERIOD-by THURSDAY-CUT THIS FROM YOUR FIRST POST AND ANSWER THE QUESTIONS
 Design Brief
10. Write a short statement of what you are going to make, why you are going to make it, and for whom you are making it. i am making a song to teach the design cycle to sixth graders
Formulate a Design Specification
11. What are the requirements for this assignment? teach a sixth grader how to use the design cycle
12. What are the limitations you have with this assignment? writers block
13. How will you "test" your project? i will ask them to sing along after the first time

SCORE

Piano:
The first tool I tried was the piano.   The piano is a fairly simple instrument, which is why I gave it an eight for simplicity.   The keys are simply pushed down with your fingers, and it makes beautiful music.   This music is always inspiring to me.   For ease to play, I gave it an eight as well.   This is because I find it very easy to play and it doesn't seem to frustrate me very much, so I would be less prone to becoming angry and giving up.
For ease to make songs with it I gave it an eight.   I gave it an eight because in my experiences it has been really easy to make songs with the piano.   I t is also very relaxing and there are a lot of various sounds that you can use, on a keyboard.  There is also very simple chords, and you can play that can make beautiful music.  So for the chords I gave it a five.  I n total the piano got thirty points.

Guitar:
The second tool I tried was the guitar.  The guitar is actually a lot more complicated than the piano.  Although this gives me more room for experimentation it's simplicity is less than that of the piano.  For simplicity I gave it a five.  I t was a five because of the six strings and the frets that you press along with plucking or strumming.  This instrument requires more hand coordination than simply pressing the keys on the piano.
For ease to play I gave the guitar an eight because I find it easier to play and the notes are easier to remember than the piano.  For chords I gave it a nine because I find that there are many more sounds that you can make with the guitar.  There’s a lot of room for creativity
